The Italian perfumer called the scent he developed in Cologne in 1708 “Italian spring morning”. Only shortly later, he managed to establish the scent as a must-have in the world of the rich. His most famous customers were King Ludwig XV. in Versailles, King Frederick the Great in Potsdam and Empress Maria Theresia in Vienna.
Since 1925, the current scent museum has been situated diagonally across from the historic city hall. An interesting exhibition illustrates the history of the Eau de Cologne. In the basement the visitor can savour the scent and buy perfumes.
